History

Sea Scouts and Guides, India, formerly known as Ocean Cadet Academy, was founded on 1 July 2000 by Dr. Gopi Shetty at the young age of 19 years. Inspired by his deep passion for the sea and maritime activities, he established the organisation with the vision of engaging young people in water-based activities while instilling in them the values of discipline, leadership, adventure, teamwork, and national service.

The organisation was created to provide youth with opportunities to develop confidence, character, and practical skills through maritime training and outdoor education.

Our History

History Begins In 2000

  1. 2000
    Founded

    Dr. Gopi Shetty at the age of 19 in love with the SEA formed Sea Scouts and Guides (Formerly known as Ocean Cadet Academy) on 1st July 2000 to involve the youth in water based activities and to instill in them the spirit of discipline and adventure.

  2. 2004
    4th Anniversary

    On 22 Feb. 2004, Commodore Rajan Vir, President, Indian Maritime Foundation was the chief Guest for the Passing out Parade and the 4th Anniversary of the SSG, the Akurdi Unit was also Commissioned on this day.

  3. 2005
    Development of Watermanship Training Facilities

    Watermanship Training centre / Boat Club for activities like Boat Pulling, Kayaking, River Crossing was Constructed on the bank of Indrayani River at Kamshet.

    5th Anniversary of SSG

    On 15 Dec. 2005, Mr Chandrashekhar Daithankar IPS then IGP Maharashtra was the chief Guest for the 5th Anniversary of SSG.

    Celebrating a Decade of Service

    On 3 Jan 2010, Brigadier Sudhir Sawant (Ex Member of Parliament) was the Chief Guest for the 10th Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.

    13th Anniversary

    On 03 Jan 2013, Veteran Vice Admiral Manohar Awati, Vir Chakra, 1971 War Hero was the Chief Guest for the 13th Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.

    16th Anniversary

    On 21 Feb. 2016, Mr Madhukarrao Kokate, IAS, Former Chairman MPSC and Former Dist. Collector Pune was the Chief Guest for 16 Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.

    19th Anniversary

    On 17 May 2019, Mr Afshad Ahmed, Chairman Hindustan Scouts and Guides Karnataka was the Chief Guest for the 19th Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.

    Strategic Partnership with the Navy Foundation Pune Chapter (NFPC)

    A letter was issued from DESA, IHQ MOD(Navy) vide their letter DX/900 dated 26 Apr 2023 observed that the mission and ethos of NFPC and Sea Scouts and Guides are complementary to each other. Further amplifying that a cooperative framework to establish collaborative working partnership would be mutually beneficial.

    23rd Anniversary

    On 18 Feb. 2024, Vice Admiral DM Deshpande AVSM VSM IN (Retd.) was the Chief Guest for the 23rd Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.

    Sea Scouts and Guides India Achievement Year

    On 9th Dec 2024, An MOU was signed between Sea Scouts and Guides India and Navy Foundation Pune Chapter. Vice Admiral Jaywant Korde PVSM AVSM VSM IN (Retd.) President, NFPC and Dr Gopi Shetty, Captain Superintendent, Sea Scouts and Guides, India signed the MOU.

    Continuing Legacy (24th Anniversary)

    On 9 Feb. 2025, Vice Admiral Jaywant Korde PVSM AVSM VSM IN (Retd.) President, NFPC was the Chief Guest for the 24rd Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.

    Silver Jubilee Celebrations

    On 26 March 2026, Vice Admiral Anil Jaggi AVSM, Commandant NDA was the Chief Guest for the 25th Anniversary of Sea Scouts and Guides, India.
